The sound of the land giving new life was an age-old, familiar thing, now.

Peregrine is attuned with it because that is the way in which she came to be. Birthed from the mere conveniences set to motion by the very alive thing that was the land itself. She had been made from nothing; she had been nothing, and then, suddenly, simply was.

So the feeling of something growing, awakening is not an unfelt occurrence. She had felt it in some unnamed bond whenever the land breathed, whenever the land that used to be just a meadow and creek grew to be so much more. It was constantly changing, constantly growing. There are no words to describe how it feels, nor what it is.

Today, however, is a different sort of growth. It's an addition, a call, like when the people of Atollon simply began in the archipelago's wake. But it's different because it's not something bent and linked to the will of an individual - or, at least, it doesn't quite feel like it to her. It feels bigger, more archaic, stronger.

As she sees the land tremble and the waves shift from below her bird's-eye view, she is prompted by a pull in her gut. And Peregrine is hardly the soul to use caution and think against something so certain and so distinct within her. She doesn't care if it's foolish, doesn't care if it's anything anyone outside of herself may say it is; she alone knows the feeling, so she will follow it.

There is little to no hesitation in how she glides down as Santoa comes into sight and, by association, so too does the Leviathan at its shores. She lowers through the wind currents until her hooves weightily meet the sandy, shelly ground and some of the course material is sent flying at the impact. She's well into the beach so that she can then let her legs take her toward the hulking beast; her wings fold securely at her side and, undaunted and probed by curiosity, Peregrine continues until she must crane her neck up to look into the beast's eyes.

She's looking for something there; something familiar.

But, as always, it doesn't take long for her to speak.

"Well, hi there," her head tilts to the side, a lopsided smile greeting the immortal. "You made quite a raucous just then. Have you always been here? Or have you just now come in?"

She can't help but wonder if the Leviathan has existed since the beginning, or if its existence has only just begun despite feeling so, so very old. It had been the same for her, anyway; having always been but, for the first time, given shape and form.

There had been a chance in Atollon. Not only had the grey bird felt it, but he had seen it.

Laying upon the rocks over the reef, he allowed one of his wings to dip into the warm water. His feathers spread at its touch, floating softly as the waves calmly lapped at his place of rest. Fish from below the surface were quick to investigate, some even nibbling on the tips of his feather before spitting out white fuzz as they determined they were not, in fact, food.

But he enjoyed soaking in the warmth of the sun as it beat down on him from a cloudless sky, warming his skin right down to his bones. He watched as the colors of the fish shimmered beneath the surface of the water, so clear that he could see the bottom and the rainbow of reefs that accompanied it.

True bliss, is what this was. A place he could finally call home after years of running. A place where he was safe-

Or so, he thought.

The bubbling of water in the distance is what had caught his attention first, followed by a rumble that startled the fish at the rock's edge. As they scattered, he pulled himself to his cloven hooves, holding his wings out to the side to steady himself. His ears perked, standing tall as he stared intently towards the water that now roared with life.

He could feel his heartbeat picking up, pounding hard in his chest as a sense of anxiety started to course through his system.

"What now?" He groaned to himself under his breath. He could never catch a break. Once he felt as though he could truly live in peace...

Now, the fog rolled. The fog that was always changing, and causing change for those like Gale who simply wanted to be. He watched as it streamed across the top of the ocean, slowly taking form of a creature he did not recognize. A dragon? Close, but not quite.

Just as he was about to turn to leave - dragon or not, he was not taking his chances - a shadow glided overhead. Now this, he also found odd, as there was not a cloud in the sky.

Tipping his head up, he found not a cloud, but another equine soaring through the sky, pointed directly towards the creature that had just awoken from the fog. Frantically, Gale looked back to the creature and then to the one in the sky, biting his lip as he shifted in place. If they were going to check it out, could it really be that bad?

Or what if they got hurt?

Letting out a grumble of frustration, the bird stretched out his wings and caught the current of the air quickly, his heart still hammering in his chest, but he took a deep breath to settle it. He would not allow this stranger to tackle the dragon-like creature on their own; the most he could do is help if something went wrong.

Still a fair few paces behind, he landed clumsily in the sand just as the stranger had started to speak. Her voice was soft and friendly, holding none of the fear that still coursed through Gale's own blood. Oh, how he wished he could do the same.

Tucking his wings to his side, he stepped forward cautiously, his gaze fixated on the Leviathan before him. He tried to keep his voice from trembling, but that itself was a feat.

"H-hello." He offered a greeting to both, but then quietened, to allow the creature to answer the other's questions first.

Azazel was shaken from her ordeal not so long ago, but she was determined to keep going, to keep living. She didn’t want to hide away, never to meet new people and try new things ever again. Perhaps it was her imagination, or perhaps it was linked somehow to the new abilities she’d discovered after being freed, but she felt more in tune with the land. Enough so that she felt when something shifted. It seemed less ominous than the hums of the monoliths, but even so she was wary. Wary but determined. She wanted to overcome her fear, and find someplace that she could truly call home. She and Remi had been wandering for longer than either of them wanted, and perhaps this shift was meant to call them towards where they were meant to be.

With the mountain lion carefully perched upon her back, the Pegasus lifted into the sky, as that would be the quickest way to get closer to the source. She thought she recognized the area as she flew closer, as the land of the Atollon herd, though she hadn’t ever been there. She’d just heard about it in her wanderings. There was an unnatural source of fog, something that had her heart thrumming in her chest as fear threatened to have her turn back around, but it was the emergence of a creature from the fog that had her fascinated. It looked like a dragon…but also like a snake?

Remi hissed quietly, but didn’t say anything as she circled lower, spotting two other equine who had already arrived to investigate. One seemed quite open and friendly, welcoming the creature, whereas the other appeared more hesitant, on edge. As she landed a ways away and began trotting closer, Remi hopped down from her back to lope beside her. They slowed as they approached, catching the tail end of the greetings, from the mare and the stallion. They were both gorgeous in their own rights, and Aza found herself a bit in awe of them, and of the beauty of the massive creature before them. Stopping a short distance away from the two equine and the Leviathan, Azazel looked to Remi, who nodded slightly and then stepped forward a bit, looking between the others. “Greetings. Are creatures like this normal for this land? We haven’t encountered anything like them before.” The big cat said, voice friendly, but still carrying that ever-present gruffness brought on by wariness.

"Remiel speaks for Azazel." Remiel thinks.

The water rippled and heaved as the Leviathan shifted, the tide languishing foamy lips upon the island’s sand. A long, undulating body wound tight over the reef, and its gargantuan, blue-scale head lifted slowly to regard you. Its intensity is bloodcurdling: a deep-seeded stare that digs into the bone, that rifles carelessly through the mind.

It breathes—a long, winded sound. A rattle of discontent and wonder, and of lackadaisical care, before it shifts ever closer. Its pointed snout angled to the shore, the creature’s earless skull tilts absently toward the source of voices.

And from the sea, it rises—
From the waters, its long neck arches and lifts, its fanged mouth parting in a demonstration of lethality.

There is a compelling beauty to its predacious wrongness, and that enchanting song of the sea seems only to intensify as you regard the sea serpent.

When it speaks, its voice is a rattling, intrusive thing; a harrowing whisper that steeps the mind in its presence. An omnipotent, telepathic echo that rings through your ears.

Careful of your questions, little ones. My voice is a short-lived thing.

Its gargantuan chest heaved, the water rolling as the creature unspooled its undulating body.

Offer me a tribute.
A secret. A gift. A memory.
A feather from your wings.
Give me something precious,
and I will give you the knowledge you seek.

The Leviathan's reaction depends on each character's reply.

It certainly isn't long before the voices of two new bodies catch her attention.

Behind her stands first Galahad, then Azazel: both strangers to her in truth, and yet, she feels no fear for them, either. Her disposition had always been an open, unapologetic thing, and the notion of an ethereal, forever-bound being did little to waver this in her, for she felt one in the same in some way. And so, surely, there was nothing to be afraid of?

"Hello, you two strangers. And for your question," she looks over her shoulder and wing toward Azazel and her companion, who clearly was the one speaking for her, "Nothing's 'normal' here - but it all is, at the same time?" She hadn't meant to speak in a riddle, it simply was how this world felt to her. Everything was on a precarious line between natural and unnatural, because despite the outside forces of influence given by its inhabitants, the land chose and the land crafted and grew itself upon layers and layers of whims. Whether these whims came from the land itself or those outside influences determined the breadth of land they knew now; and she is certain, in time, it would only continue to grow more and more.

And she loved how wild it was. She loved that it was untamed and could not be captured or reeled in for anyone. It was perhaps the one thing she loved most in all the world, and all the worlds outside of this one she had been borne into.

Before long, the Leviathan's words are trembling and creeping into her own mind; it brings a chill up her spine, and her eyes snap distinctly and sharply back to the beast which demanded attention in mere presence and intensity alone.

Even a carefree spirit like Peregrine couldn't deny the hold in which the Leviathan grasps; the way the sea sung and its breathing seemed to chime in time with it.

It is awe that creeps up on her, and after listening to what the large beast had to say, she looks over a wing; outstretches it slowly, and in just another moment another smile - a softer one, this time - plants itself on her lips once more. In the next, she is looking to the two other pegasi that had joined her on this beach. Excitement is quick to tingle her wingtips and the base of her hooves, her chest. It bubbles and that awe-inspired, cold feeling is replaced with something warm and inviting.

"Well, we all have feathers to spare. Let's make it feel welcome, shall we?" Her nose nestles into her wing, and a ruffle of feathers later a colorful feather is plucked from her extended appendage. She smiles with it in her lips, and after an expectant tilt of her head to her new companions behind her, steps forward until she is just shy of the wave's grasp. Her neck stretches down to lay the feather upon the moist sand and, as a wave rolls in, her gift is taken back to the sea and, just as well, to the Leviathan.

"So, big beastie: where do you come from?"

Another had approached, but he had not noticed right away, his lilac gaze fixated on the leviathan before them. The way its body twirled and churned beneath the water; its long, arched neck leading to a dainty head and fanged mouth. He felt... small beneath its shadow, as it turned to look at them. He even hazard a step back; a small one, but a step back nonetheless.

He had nothing to be afraid of, yet his heart seemed to be running a race only it knew if it could win. He had done far more than stand before a Leviathan in his life, including standing up to the creature of darkness that had managed to follow him here (whether that had been her intention or not, he did not know nor care).

Working his jaw, the grey bird did his best to relax his tense muscles, letting out a soft breath that he had not been aware he was holding-

Until someone spoke up behind him.

With a squeak of surprise, the pegasus leapt in his place, his hooves scrambling atop the sand and wings fluttering from such a jolt. With feathers puffed, he turned to the offender with a scowl; unintended, but also unapologetic.

One was an equine; a pegasus just like himself and the painted mare he had followed here. The other was what he assumed was her companion- a mountain lion.

Gale brushed the look upon his face off, turning back towards the Leviathan with a tip of his head at the question. Was such a creature normal here? What was normal here to begin with?

A good question indeed, and he nodded along with Peregrine's answer. A ring-around answer, but accurate. No one really understood these lands anyways, as far as he could tell. While he had met many that were fascinated with the wild, untamed land, he found himself hating it. Nothing more did he want to return home, where he knew each and every mountain and grain of sand. Where he knew where to rest at night and when the best time to fly was.

But home was no more, and Atollon had offered him something anew. He simply had to allow his heart to accept it.

The Leviathan does not give them long to dwell over such a question, though, as soon, its whispers start to steep into their minds. A shiver runs down Gale's spine at the husky voice, echoing ever so slightly as if they were standing in a cave and not at the seaside.

But despite the chill that washed through the boy's veins, he could not help but feel... peace. This creature had not tried to hurt them yet - even though it could easily swallow them whole if it so chose - and its voice was soft and gentle.

His gaze flickered to Peregrine as she plucked a feather from her wing and offered it to the sea's grasp, watching as it floated gently to the Leviathan. He looked to his own wings, stretching one out before him. Never had he thought that one of his own feathers could be offered as a gift, and the thought was enough to let a soft smile find his lips, and in turn, his body relaxed.

Perhaps, this was not so bad.

Carefully plucking one of his most patterned feathers from his wing, he, too, stepped forward to offer it to the beast. He gently placed it upon the waves, watching as it followed suit behind the other feather.

"And- what is your name?" His question followed the first, the nerves now gone from his tone and his ears pricked forwards with curiosity.

Azazel had never seen a creature such as the one before her and the other two equine. It was as though the creature had slithered out of the most creative part of one’s imagination. Elegant yet undeniably deadly, and yet there was a sense of peace that had her slightly unsettled. It was odd for them, three creatures of prey, arguably, to be so calm before what was undoubtedly a very deadly predator. However, though deadly, this predator displayed a level of intelligence that was as daunting as it was awe-inspiring.

Remiel was of similar mindset, though he was decidedly more on edge and wary. He had never liked snakes, truthfully, and this one was massive. Far larger than anything he could handle, for sure. Azazel hadn’t missed the way the stallion had jumped at the unexpected sound of Remi’s voice, and though she hadn’t heard him squeak in surprise, Remi had, and relished relaying as much to her. Her eyes wide, Aza met his gaze and lips parted to voice her apology without thinking. “S-sorry!” She squeaked in return, bright eyes darting between the stallion, the mare, and the leviathan. It seemed like the beginning of quite the joke, that’s for sure.

When they had arrived and Remi had voiced the question on both of their minds, the other mare looked over her shoulder to answer them. She greeted Azazel and the stallion, explaining, in a bit of a round-about way, that nothing was normal there, and yet that was normal for this land. It had Remi’s head threatening to ache, but Azazel could understand that. She nodded hesitantly, then her attention was drawn back to the massive creature as it rose from the waters, its fanged mouth parting in quite the display, one that had the deaf mare ducking to hide behind the stallion, peeking up over his wing to watch.

Its voice in her mind was rattling, intrusive, a whisper and yet an echo, warning of their questions, and issuing a request of sorts. Less a request and more a demand, but one that could be declined, if they wished to do so. The other mare didn’t, instead offering a bright smile that matched the infectious happy personality she displayed, and easily plucked a feather from her wing to give to the leviathan. The stallion followed suit, and Azazel thought for a moment, then nodded. She cautiously stepped out from behind Galahad just long enough to place a banded feather into the surf, as the other two had. She then stepped back, and Remi, after having watched and absorbed everything, decided on what he would give, as he had no wings.

The big cat stepped forward to draw even with Azazel, and closed bright hazel eyes to focus on his memories. One in particular. He pulled up the moment when he had realized he wanted nothing more than to be with Azazel as her friend, her guard, her voice. A joyous occasion that gave him purpose for the first time in his life. He wasn’t sure how exactly the leviathan would know of his offering, but something told him that perhaps he didn’t need to do anything more. So, opening his eyes, he drew back a bit, watching warily.

"Remiel speaks for Azazel." Remiel thinks.
"Azazel speaks." Azazel thinks.

The sea rippled with the Leviathan’s rumbling, its serpentine body quivering with what rings through your mind in the shape of laughter. A deep, benign thing–void of joy, and yet empty of malevolence, too. And yet it reaps each bounty with a telekinetic touch, drawing the tributes unto the lapping tide. The water sucks, drawing the gifts nearer, and the behemoth creature permits them to sink into its wake, drawn beneath the surface and into the undertow of an aquatic realm.

To the questions given, its beady eyes glitter like gemstones, disarming you of your thoughts with the enlightened gleam that shines within its stare. It is captivating–it is enrapturing.

It is nearly enough to compel you to throw yourself into the sea, too. If only the Leviathan would ask it of you.

It does not.

Indeed, true to its oath, it answers the question with a wryness that almost displays its disappointment for the simplicity of such queries. Here, it had offered them knowledge upon a platter–and here, too, they would only ask of its origins, its name.

Another rumbling laugh echoes the first, and the Leviathan’s undulating body shifts nearer to the shore, until it lays within the shallows, the length of it resting lightly upon the bed of reef below. Through the crystalline surface, you can make out the fish that reverently pick dead flesh from its scales; grooming it with a godly sort of respect.

But Atollon’s serpent looks only to you.

You would ask so little of a creature that offers to answer all.

Very well, then, little ones.

I come from the mists.
I come from your mind.
I am what you wish to see–

And in some lights, what you hope to never lay eyes upon again.

I will be what you long for;
but I, too, can be what you fear, if you come to hunt me.

A rumbling pause, its heaving body forcing the waters to part as it arches its gargantuan neck, lifting from the sea to peer upon the trinity of pegasi.

My name cannot be spoken in a tongue such as yours.
But you may call me Ild'iss'ood.

It might have smiled. You cannot be sure, whether that display of teeth is a snarl or a grin. You cannot be sure of much at all, with how its harrowing words resound through your skull.

For your tributes, I offer you one last gift.
You need only wish for it now.

Galahad, though she doesn't know his name yet, steps up to her prompting first. He takes a position near her side, and her eyes - which were originally remaining focus on the serpent ahead of them to where their feathers drift to now - catch the soft, cool colors of his coat in her periphery. She turns to him to offer a friendly smile, one big enough to squint her eyes in the process. A look of approval if there ever was one, and she's pleasantly surprised by the question he asks.

Azazel comes second, and she passes the very same grin toward her as her feather floats to the serpent, then steps back and her companion does the same in her wake. She hopes that the other mare caught her smile - though she notices that she can't remain on this for long as the colossal beast lets out a rumbling, amused sound, shifting and settling its upper body in the shallows.

She feels far from her previous thoughts, suddenly, and so very far away from the two pegasi near her. Her eyes shine its regular youth toward its own bright, shimmering gaze; she has to blink hard in order to gain some of her awareness back, though the temptation (of what, she does not know, because the Leviathan does not ask nor demand) remains.

As it speaks once more, it has since again stolen her attention to it in the process. Her ears set forward curiously and she looks to it with the same brightness, the same curiosity.

What it gives is more than she could have ever expected. Although, the first part of its speech is familiar to her: the mists, the mind, because she knows she was given shape in much the same way. Her heart takes twists and turns as it continues and she finds herself biting her bottom lip in thought to its words.

By the time it's finished, has given its name and offered them a gift, she finds her gaze turning towards the sand as she thinks.

The first thought that comes has her gaze drifting toward Azazel and her companion; she had never been jealous nor can it be entirely certain that she will ever feel the emotion, but it was something she longed for. A friend to talk to, to have around, to share the skies with her; but someone who, too, came from where she had, appeared by coincidence and will alone in a field of flowers with some happenstance company at her side. Someone who could relate and understand her, as she could do the same to them, in certain ways others could not.

Her eyes drift down again to her chest, and as the thoughts and feelings continue to resonate within her, she looks desperately back toward the Leviathan; a hope that it had, perhaps, felt the thoughts in her and could read them.

She figures that, since it had asked for memories, for a wish, and had such an ability to access them telepathically to speak, it would be able to.

And more outwardly, because she also just can't help to wonder:

"Will you always be here now? I'd like to visit you sometimes. Talk together, maybe?" A lopsided grin accompanies an awkward brush of a foreleg against the other; a bashful sort of look, her tail sweeping gently over the sand behind her.

Still, his heart pounded in the presence of the leviathan, though there was a sense of peace in the fact that it had not tried to devour them yet. Especially with how close he had stepped to it to offer one of his feathers. He watched with a tip of his head as their newest member of the small group stepped for forwards to offer the same, and then they all stood quietly, attention on the creature.

And it laughs.

While its body twists and turns among the shallows, the hearty tune of laughter fills his mind and causes him to flinch. At what, he isnt entirely sure. Laughing at him, he was sure, for such a silly question. The creature was right- it was a dull question for a being that claimed to know all.

But he is quickly pulled from his insecurities as it continues, and he found himself taking a half step forward with curiosity. The mists. Their minds. Oh, how he had heard that before. The dreams of his friend that had brought this very land they stood on to life. Now, he was so lost in his mind that he almost missed the creature's name.

His gaze flickered to the colorful pegasus that had been the first to arrive as she asked for her own gift. A soft smile finds his lips as all she wants is a friend, a sentiment that radiates with himself deeply. His wings shuffle as he dips his head. His silver hair plays across lavender eyes, shading them as he closes his eyes in thought.

A being from the mists- a being who has seen all within it? Across the land that he has been hesitant to explore after finding safety among the sands?

He draws in a shaky breath as he turns his gaze up to the exposed teeth of the Leviathan, his hair falling from his face.

"I seek merely knowledge." He says quietly, as if still lost in his own thoughts. "Ild'iss'ood, have you seen all of this world? Do you know... Would you be able to know if my sister has made it here safely?"
